Planning for AFTER Baby

As Doulas, it’s our job to ask open-ended questions about everything. Those questions include ones that get families thinking about the next part of their lives with a baby in it.

When you think about the fourth trimester, what does it look like to you?

“Well, we were hoping that…..”

“My mom might be there, but I don’t know what she can help with…”

“My partner only gets a week off of work…..But, we should be ok.”

It’s a question we always ask our pregnant clients, and the answers very much look like the ones above. The excitement of having a baby and planning for a baby sometimes takes the front and center stage of what things might look like after the baby comes home- and that is okay!

Our postpartum doulas are incredible at seeing what is potentially in front of you before you even step into postpartum. Why? Well, they’ve likely had time to get to know you throughout your pregnancy as your Birth Doula. They know that a combination feeding feels important to you. They know that you can’t survive without at least 4 hours of sleep every night. They know that you need someone you can trust with all of the delicate decision-making that comes up with postpartum.

If you haven’t taken a little time to consider what the fourth trimester looks like for your family ask yourself a few questions:

-What does feeding your baby look like?

-How do you envision those first few weeks when sleep might be sparse for you?

-What does your support system look like?

-How can we help you plan now, for what you need tomorrow?

As we said above, if you don’t know what postpartum looks like for you, consider reaching out to our Postpartum Team for a consultation today.
